1. TSM basics
A course on TSM basics, called Data management: Backing up your data to the HFS with TSM, is run each term in conjunction with the IT Learning Centre. Topics covered include installing TSM; running manual and scheduled backups; restoring your data; and checking your backup account and status in the HFS Backup & Archive Services Portal and on the IT Services registration pages.
The TSM basics course is given by a member of the HFS Team and is held at IT Services Banbury Road. It comprises taught and practical elements and lasts 2-3 hours. You can see further details at the course description page, and book at the course booking page.
If you prefer, you may watch a shorter (50 minute) version of the Introduction to TSM course, without its practical element, where you can see the slides and listen to the audio of a podcast of a similar talk. This was given as part of the ITLP do: series and is called Backing Up Your Data to the HFS.
2. Advanced use of TSM
A session on more advanced use of TSM is available for those who already have some experience of the HFS and/or TSM and who manage backups for a number of users or servers. Topics covered include: checking your unit's backups; configuring TSM to set what data is backed up; and trouble-shooting various TSM-related problems such as restore problems, locked accounts and missed/failed backup schedules.
This talk is organised by IT Support Staff Services (ITS3) and is also given by a member of the HFS Team. For further details on when it is next available, please see the ITS3 page on Advanced Use of TSM for Backup. IT Support Staff may sign up via the latter page; if you are interested in attending but are not IT staff, or if you have a question about this talk, please contact us on firstname.lastname@example.org.
