Downloading the Backup Software for macOS

With effect from version 8.1 onwards, the IBM TSM (Tivoli Storage Manager) backup / archive product has been rebranded as IBM Spectrum Protect. This is a rebranding exercise by IBM and, unless indicated specifically, there is no difference in the operation of the two brands. Version 7 of the (old) TSM client is still available for installation on older operating systems and you will see references to both IBM Spectrum Protect and TSM throughout these pages.

1. Downloading the backup software for macOS

Please click on the appropriate link below to begin downloading the backup software, then follow the instructions below.

Restoring non-Mac data? If you are installing the backup software because you need to restore data backed up from a Windows or Linux machine, please note that this is not possible with the backup software on a Mac - you need to restore your data to the same type of system as the one that you used to back it up. Please see further our FAQ item How do I perform a restore?.

Upgrading? If you already have the backup software installed and want to upgrade or reinstall it, then please follow the instructions below. There is no need to remove the existing version that you already have before upgrading.

  1. For OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion), OS X 10.9 (Mavericks, OS X 10.10 (Yosemite), OS X 10.11 (El Capitan), macOS 10.12 (Sierra) and macOS 10.13 (High Sierra) download our latest TSM 7.1 package. Note that support for macOS 10.12 Sierra and 10.13 High Sierra on this client version is on a best-efforts basis as there is no official support from IBM.

  2. You may be warned that the download contains an application - if so, click the Continue button.

  3. The file will now be saved and you are ready to begin theĀ software installation.
