Connecting to eduroam via Android 4.1.1 - 4.3

1. Introduction

The following instructions apply to using the eduroam wireless service on a device running the Android operating system versions 4.1.1 - 4.3

NB. Android devise connections may slightly differ in appearance between brands but the essential settings will all be the same.

  1. From the home screen, swipe the Notification Tray menu upwards on your device (or swipe down for versions 4.2 and 4.3) as indicated in the image below:
  2. Tap Reveal Settings button from the menu on the screen as shown:
  3. Tap the Settings button.
  4. If not already ticked then Tap or Swipe the Wi-Fi button to turn on your wireless networking, a list of nearby networks will then be populated under the heading WiFi as shown in the image below:
  5. Tap the eduroam network in the list, note that you may need to scroll down to locate it.
  6. Ensure the settings match the image below, you can change each entry by simply tapping each one in turn to reveal a list of options.
    • [EAP] = PEAP
    • [Phase 2 Authentication] = MSCHAPV2
    • [CA certificate] = Unspecified
    • [User certificate] = Unspecified
  7. Enter your Remote Access account username  plus in the User name field (for example If you see an Anonymous identity field as shown in the example above then add in your Remote Access account username again e.g.
  8. Next enter your Remote Access password (as set via in the Password field, as shown above.
  9. Finally hit the Connect button.
  10. Wait a little while (usually just a few seconds) until the message eduroam network in the list is shown in bold with the word Connected below as shown in the following image:
  11. The network profile for the eduroam network will now be saved to your device. Reconnection will occur automatically whenever your devices WiFi is switched on and within range of an eduroam access point anywhere in the world.
