HFS Windows daytime backup scheduler

9 August 2017 - 4:19pm
As a result of the withdrawal of the EEM service (that facilitated the wake up of sleeping machines for an overnight scheduled backup), the HFS team has developed a windows daytime scheduler utility. This enables Windows users to easily set up scheduled backups to run up to twice a day during the day and features an easy interface for choosing specific folders to include. The utility is already included in the latest IT services client package for Windows - namely version and Windows users not on these versions will need to upgrade their IT Service Spectrum Protect / TSM client to one of these versions in order to use this facility. There is simple instruction at: on getting started.

HFS service scheduled maintenance on Tuesday 8th September

1 September 2016 - 3:57pm

On Thursday 8th September we will be upgrading the TSM server software on two of the TSM servers that provide the HFS service. These servers are:

OX_LIBRARY - manages the tape library

OX_HFS - provides the archive service

The impact is that there will be no access to the archive service, and no access to any data on tape (which in general means no restores) while the upgrades take place. This is expected to be for about 30 minutes sometime between 08:00 and 12:00. The precise timing will depend on the completion of tasks copying overnight client backups to tape. The real-time information of service availability will be displayed at

Downtime for upgrade of the other servers will be announced in due course.

19 August 2015 - 2:31pm

We expect each server to be unavailable for approximately half an hour during which no client access will be possible. We hope to have the work completed by late morning.

HFS TSM clients for Linux

24 July 2015 - 2:57pm
Updated packages have been released to the HFS Linux repositories. These provide newer versions of the client software: and

The version 7 client requires Java 7 and 64-bit Linux. The package will be installed on older 64-bit Linux versions/distributions that do not come with Java 7 available. The latest version for 32-bit systems remains but please note that this is now out of support. You can continue to use it but we cannot obtain support from IBM should you have problems backing up.

The client includes a fix that can improve restore performance when restoring files from multiple directories so we strongly recommend you update your client if you are running an earlier version (this fix is already in the current client but upgrade is still encouraged).

There is also an update to the ox-hfs-repo package for RPM based systems only with some small changes to improve the handling of signing keys.
