Mac and Linux Installations

This guide is for Mac or Linux computers. For other devices, please consult the relevant guide.

 Set up a Chorus password and PIN

  • Before installing Chorus, you need to set a Chorus password and (voicemail) PIN
  • You will also need to know your Oxford Single Sign-On (SSO) details.
  • Visit the registration page at https://register.it.ox.ac.uk/self/chorus_password and follow the instructions to create your password and PIN.
  • Take note of your OpenScape username as well.

Installing on Mac

1.  Before starting you need to set a Chorus password and PIN.

2.  Ensure your operating system and / or software packages are up-to-date before installing Chorus. 

3.  Go to  https://jitsi.org/downloads/ in your web browser and click on the 'Mac OS X packages' link:

4. Open the download and then install as you would any other application, i.e. drag the Jitsi icon to the 'Applications' folder

5. Go to the Lauchpad and start the Jitsi application:

6. On first start, please click a Sign in prompt will be presented, click on the 'Use online provisioning' link:

7. On the provisioning advanced tab, check 'Enable provisioning' and 'Manually specify a provisioning URI', and enter this for the URI:

https://deploy.chorus.ox.ac.uk/UserParameterService/jitsiProvisioning?id=${username}&password=${password}

8. Restart Jitsi - this is important in order for the changes to take effect.  Enter the log on credentials:

Identifier: <your Oxford SSO>-sip, i.e. ouit1234-sip

Password: your Chorus password, as set in step 1. Check ‘Remember password’, then click OK.

9. If the status has not been set to 'Online', set this on the Jitsi dialler:

10. If you get the following error, then please ensure that the settings have been entered correctly (see point 7) :

Installing on Linux, example Ubuntu

1.  Before starting you need to set a Chorus password and PIN.

2.  Ensure your operating system and / or software packages are up-to-date before installing Chorus. 

3.  Go to  https://jitsi.org/downloads/ in your web browser and click on the 'Ubuntu repository' link:

4. Open the Terminal application and copy and paste the commands from the repository link:

 5. Search for and launch Jitsi:

6. Enter the log on credentials:

Identifier: <your Oxford SSO>-sip, i.e. ouit1234-sip

Password: your Chorus password, as set in step 1. Check ‘Remember password’, then click OK.

7. This will load the dialler, click on 'Tools' then 'Options'

8. Open up the 'Advanced tab', check 'Enable provisioning' and 'Manually specify a provisioning URI', and enter this for the URI:

https://deploy.chorus.ox.ac.uk/UserParameterService/jitsiProvisioning?id=${username}&password=${password}

9. Restart Jitsi - this is important in order for the changes to take effect.  You will need to enter the credentials in step 6.

10.  If the status has not been set to 'Online', set this on the Jitsi dialler:
