Requirements
In order to be able to connect to the IT Services VPN service on ChromeOS / Chromebook:
- You must first have registered for a Remote Access account via our Self Registration page.
- Your device must be connected to the internet, over either wireless or your mobile data network.
Setting up the in-built VPN Client
- Open the Launcher and select the Chrome Web Store
- Search for Cisco AnyConnect, select it and click Add to Chrome. Click Add if prompted to confirm
- Double click the AnyConnect icon on your Application screen and wait for it to initialise (this could take 2-3 minutes)
- Click Add New Connection, enter Oxford VPN into the Name field and vpn.ox.ac.uk into the Server Address field. Do not tick the Connect with IPSec box
- Click Save Changes
Once set up is complete you can simply connect and disconnect each time you want to use the Oxford VPN as follows:
Connecting to VPN
Make sure that you have installed and configured Oxford VPN (Setup Oxford VPN on ChromeOS) before trying to connect.
- Right-click on the Wifi icon in the notifications bar
- Choose VPN disconnected and select the Oxford VPN entry
- When prompted enter your Remote Access account details (this is the same username as SSO, but usually a different password)
Disconnecting from VPN
- Right-click on the Wifi icon in the notifications bar
- Click Connected to Oxford VPN and then Disconnect in the top-right corner
