Connecting to the University network

CONNECTION OF UNIVERSITY BUILDINGS AND COLLEGE PROPERTIES

All main college sites and virtually all university buildings are linked by optical fibre cable to the University Network.  Some outlying buildings, such as BSF Swindon, Tubney and Wytham Field Stations rely on either a microwave link or a commerical 3rd party IP connection.

If you wish to investigate the options available to install a data network connection to a particular property please contact Network Operations at networks@it.ox.ac.uk.

EXTENSION OF THE DUCT AND OPTICAL FIBRE CABLE NETWORK

The duct and optical fibre cable network extends to all colleges and virtually all university buildings.  It also extends to the John Radcliffe, Old Road, Nuffield Orthopaedic and Warneford hospital sites.

In other areas colleges have themselves funded the installation of ducts and optical fibre cable.  These projects require IT Services Network Operations team to initiate the duct installation and arrange the Local Authority Permissions if ducting on the public highway is required.  The installation of optical fibre cabling will involve IT Services to specify how it should be connected into the existing network.

The University has published the following standards for ductwork and cabling installations:
