Configuring Skype for use on the Oxford University network

No special configuration required

The University of Oxford no longer requires any special configuration for those using Skype.

Note: Due to licensing changes from Microsoft, Skype is no longer allowed to be set up against an Oxford email account ( although existing Skype accounts will still function. See the Skype Personal set up page for more details.

Some departments and colleges may still have restrictions so please check the IT Support Information for the place where you are connecting your computer.

It is perfectly acceptable to use OWL or Eduroam for Skype although we recommend you use a wired network connection if possible for a better quality connection and hence Skype experience.

Visitors may also use Skype on OWL's visitor facilities if they wish.

Subject to the above, all members and staff of the University may use Skype as-is on the University network so long as such use remains within the University's IT Rules.
