Reconfiguring the HFS backup software

You will need to know both your HFS node name and password to complete the procedures outlined below.

The software resets itself a new password periodically, meaning that you probably do not know your current password.  We strongly recommend therefore that you first of all reset your password via the HFS Backup Services Portal before using the procedure below.

If the instructions do not work for you, please get in touch with us at hfs@ox.ac.uk.

Windows

You need administrator privileges to reconfigure the HFS backup software in Windows.

  1. To reconfigure the software on machines running:
    • IBM Spectrum Protect 8.1.11 or later use the HFS Hub
    • IBM Spectrum Protect or TSM (7.1.6.5 onwards), run HFS_reconfig.cmd located in the folder C:\Program Files\Tivoli\TSM\HFSUtils.
    • older versions of TSM, run HFS_reconfig.cmd located in the folder C:\tsm_images.
  2. Provide the node name and password when prompted, then follow the onscreen instructions.

macOS / OSX

You need administrator privileges to reconfigure the HFS backup software on a Mac.

  1. To reconfigure the software on machines running:
    • IBM Spectrum Protect (8.1.0.2 onwards), run Applications > Tivoli Storage Manager > TSM Tools for Administrators
    • TSM (7.1.6.6 and earlier), run Applications > IBM Spectrum ProtectTSM Tools for Administrators
  2. Select Reconfigure TSM node or Reconfigure Spectrum Protect node.
  3. Provide the node name and password when prompted.

Linux

You need to run the reconfiguration command with root privileges.

The method of reconfiguring the HFS backup software varies slightly depending on the Spectrum Protect client version and your Linux distribution.

The Linux installation instructions include instructions for reconfiguring the software on a variety of distributions.  Below is a summary of the commands required.

Distribution  Command
Spectrum Protect 8.1.11 and later /opt/tivoli/tsm/client/ba/bin/HFSconfigure
Debian-based distributions (e.g. Debian, Ubuntu, Linux Mint) using Spectrum Protect 8.1.0 to 8.1.9 dpkg-reconfigure ox-hfs-sp-client-nogui
Debian-based distributions (e.g. Debian, Ubuntu, Linux Mint) using TSM 7.1 or earlier dpkg-reconfigure tsm-client-base
Others  /opt/tivoli/tsm/client/ba/bin/HFSsetup.sh reconfigure
