Educational Media Services

Educational Media Services (EMS) is the University's main digital video and audio service. Using state-of-the-art equipment, the unit offers a professional service for the University, colleges, related institutions, commercial customers and individuals.  A list of our various services and technical capabilities is found below:

Digital Video Production & Livestreaming 

EMS has the facility to produce broadcast quality video for the web and Oxford on iTunesU. The crew can be hired to film lectures, conferences, interviews and promotional programmes to support and to promote University activities.

Replay Lecture Capture

EMS provides the technical capacity to automate the digital recording of lectures and the lecturer's slides, without the need of a technician present, in order that students may view these at a later date within WebLearn, the University's virtual learning environment.

Podcasting

EMS provides a publication platform, MediaPub, for the publication of podcasts both on our website podcasts.ox.ac.uk and for publication as part of Oxford on iTunes U. The publishing portal hosts over 5,000 free lectures and talks.

Video Conferencing

EMS provides a video conferencing service and in-house suite that enables online person-to-person meetings between two or more locations around the globe in real-time audio and video using some of the latest technology.

Degree Ceremony DVDs

EMS has filmed and continues to film all of the Oxford Degree Ceremonies starting from November 1989. These DVDs can be purchased either online or by contacting the unit.

Professional Digital Editing

EMS provides broadcast quality non-linear video editing. Our work is done by professional and experienced in-house editors, who have a speciality working with FCPX filmmaking.

Tape Duplication

EMS provides the technical capacity to copy and transcode from most formats including MINI DV, DVC Pro, Beta SP, Hi-8, C-Format. The list goes on, so please contact us if questions.

Video Archive

EMS archives a massive quantity of events, visits, and lectures in and around the University of Oxford. We also have some vintage archive Oxford footage which has been donated to us.
