Accounts and Passwords

Each member of the University has a Single Sign-on (SSO) account and is often referred to as your 'Oxford' account. This account is supplied and managed by IT Services. Obviously details of your SSO and other accounts should be kept private and not shared. There is also a separate account for remote access used to access Wi-Fi via Eduroam, and to access your files on the University network when away from Oxford.

Please note: IT Services will never ask you for your password in any communication we have with you. Do not disclose your password to others.

The following links will take you to help information about managing your SSO account, password security, account entitlements etc.

Student clubs/societies can obtain IT accounts and facilities from IT Services. These need to be renewed each year:

Information Security

Here at the University, we take information security very seriously. We rely on data for everything we do and everybody has a responsibility to make sure the information they access doesn't get hacked, infected, abused or destroyed by unscrupulous online scammers and spammers. Here's how to secure your accounts, devices and data from day one, and where to go for support.

N.B. The links in this section take you to our sister site - Infosec.

Anti-Virus and Adware/Spyware Information

We all need protection from viruses and the University expects its staff and students to protect their machines. The recommended and supported antivirus production is Sophos. The following links will help you setup and use Sophos on your machine.

If you are a member of the University IT support staff please see Antivirus Information for Oxford University IT Support Staff section.
