Platform

The comprehensive web hosting service is based on a Linux platform running Apache 2.4.

Web CMS Options

The following framework and full content management systems are available and supported:

  • Django applications
  • Drupal
  • Typo3
  • WordPress

Note that our shared hosting is not appropriate for Plone/Zope.

Scripting languages

The following scripting languages are available and supported:

  • perl5
  • PHP 7
  • python 2.7
  • python 3.5

Databases

The following database systems are available and supported:

  • MySQL
  • PostgreSQL

We use the University HFS backup service to backup your site. This includes the files and databases associated with your site. Backups are run daily, 6 days out of 7, following the normal HFS scheduling.

Backups include the cgi, cron, home, htdocs and logs sub-directories of each site directory. Backups do not include any other files or folders in your home directory on access.nsms.ox.ac.uk or within your site directories.

Please contact us if you need files or directories from your site restored.

There are 4 different sizes of site available (up to 250MB, 500MB, 1GB or 15GB), and these come with allocated file storage. If your site storage is exceeded then you will be notified by email and have a 7 day grace period before restrictions take effect.

A separate quota of 1GB is applied to the management server, access.nsms.ox.ac.uk, and has no grace period.
