How to manually configure access to CONNECT network drives

Most staff have access to one or more "mapped drives" on their managed staff PC. These drives will show up immediately when using a managed staff desktop PC onsite, and should show up within a few minutes of activating Oxford VPN when working remotely. If you are using a self-managed device, or the drives do not appear when you connect to Oxford VPN, then you can configure access manually.

Notice: Mapped drives in the remote desktop service

If your normal mapped drives are not available in the CONNECT remote desktop service then please contact the service desk first.

WINDOWS
  1. Connect to Oxford VPN
  2. Select Start  , type explorer, and select File Explorer
  3. Right click on This PC and select "Map network drive..."
  4. Select drive letter O: (or an alternative if this is not available) and type the path as \\connect.ox.ac.uk\XXXX (where XXXX is one of  the departmental drive paths listed below)
  5. Select "Connect using different credentials" and enter your CONNECT login details with your username in the form CONNECT\abcd1234

We strongly recommend that you choose driver letter O: when connecting to any of the departmental drives listed on this page. This provides consistency with other users, which improves reliability and performance when opening documents. Other standard drive mappings are described in How to access files and folders on managed staff desktops.
