The University of Oxford is trialling Copilot for Microsoft 365. Copilot for Microsoft 365 integrates AI capabilities into Office 365 apps on the desktop and online, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, Loop and Forms.
In order to use Copilot for M365 you need to have a Nexus365 account, and have a named-user Copilot licence allocated to you. To check if you have the Copilot licence, log in to Groups I am in and search for Licensing AD Group: Copilot for M365.
Copilot Teams channel and community
Staff who are participating in the AI pilot will be added to a dedicated group in MS Teams.
Copilot availability
Copilot for Microsoft 365 will show up in various places once your licence allocation is active:
- Teams, on the desktop and online
- Nexus 365 online apps (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Loop, Forms)
- Office 365 desktop apps (not available on managed staff PCs, please use the online versions instead)
- Copilot web assistant
(Note that to use Copilot in Teams meetings you will need to request the ability to record in Teams for your account, and then enable transcription in the meeting).
Other Copilot versions
Microsoft markets several AI-powered assistants and platforms under the Copilot name.
In addition to the Copilot for Microsoft 365 pilot, staff and students with a Nexus365 account can also access Microsoft Copilot (formerly Bing Chat Enterprise). Make sure you access this by visiting https://portal.office.com/ and choosing the Copilot app: you will see a green shield in the top-right to show that you are using the enterprise version with additional security and privacy features.
