In general, it is rare that legitimate email will end up in quarantine, however we would still recommend checking this periodically.

If you are expecting a specific email which has not been received, we would suggest checking your quarantine for this. There may be other reasons why this was not delivered and missing emails can be reported via IT self service Report a missing email service request.

You can only access the quarantine via this direct link - https://security.microsoft.com/quarantine there is no link to the quarantine from your mailbox regardless of what method you use to read your emails.

To release email form the quarantine:

  1. Go to the quarantine: https://security.microsoft.com/quarantine
  2. Identify the email you wish to release
  3. Tick the box next to the email. You can tick multiple emails if applicable
  4. Press the release button at the top of the list

There may be a risk with any email you release so we would advise that you review all mail you wish to release in the quarantine before releasing it to your mailbox.

Advice and guidance on how and what to check:

  • You can select the email in your quarantine and review the quarantine details.
  • Were you expecting this email, is it from a sender you know?
  • You can preview the message from the quarantine before deciding to release this to your mailbox.
  • Familiarise yourself with InfoSec’s advice on avoiding email scams.

Emails remain in quarantine for 30 days, after which time they are automatically deleted and cannot be recovered.

Please note that you are also able to delete your own emails from the quarantine.

Microsoft Exchange Online protection will automatically quarantine potentially dangerous or unwanted messages.

Some messages from senders you know may be sent to quarantine at the request of the sender’s organisation. Sending organisations create a policy setting called DMARC that asks recipients to check a message’s authenticity and take an action if those checks fail. Nexus365 is configured to respect those organisations' requests. You may wish to contact the sender and ask them to check their settings with their sending organisation if they are repeatedly ending up in your quarantine.

You are not able to stop email going into the quarantine.
