Setting and Changing your outgoing mail (smtp) settings
Outgoing mail settings are the settings which inform your mail client (e.g. Outlook, Thunderbird etc.) which outgoing mail service (known as smtp) to use when you send mail. This is different to the settings for accessing your mailbox for incoming mail.
We have changed the preferred service since we introduced our Nexus365 mail service using the Microsoft Office365 platform. We now asking everyone to use outlook.office365.com as their outgoing mail service for all devices. We will be phasing out smtp.ox.ac.uk as a valid service for end user mail during Autumn 2020. If you are using this service, you need to change the settings in your email client as outlined below.
Instructions according to mail client

Apple provide detailed Mac configuration instructions, Use the IMAP4 settings at the top of the page.
To change the sending server (SMPT) settings in the Mail app on your Mac, choose Mail > Preferences, click Accounts, click Server Settings, click the outgoing Account pop-up menu, then choose Edit SMTP Server List.

You must ensure that secure connections are selected for both incoming mail and for outgoing mail.
Configure the outgoing server
Multiple email accounts can use the same outgoing SMTP server. Therefore, SMTP servers are created separately from email accounts. In the Account Settings dialog, in the left pane, select Outgoing Server (SMTP) from the bottom of the list. There may be an entry in the resulting list that was created when you entered your account details. Either edit that entry or add a new entry.

Exchange Web Services (EWS)
You can use this service to enable Nexus365 calendars in Thunderbird as well as adding Exchange functionality to other clients.
A calendaring add-on is available here: https://github.com/ExchangeCalendar/exchangecalendar/
Configure it to use Exchange Web Services (EWS) and this URL, which (when visited and authenticated) can also be used to generate a service for connections: https://outlook.office365.com/EWS/Exchange.asmx
As with other clients, the username format is your SSO followed by @OX.AC.UK (which is case sensitive and should be in CAPITALS: unitxxxx@OX.AC.UK).
