Migrating a device to the new SSO for Managed Desktops.

Migration Process – User Initiated

Once your computer has been added to the correct upgrade group when you open Software Centre and click on the “Operating System” tab you will see two migration options:

  • Migrate to SSO Login: PC & Logged-in User
  • Migrate to SSO Login: PC Only (not user)

If you are upgrading your own device, choose the “Migrate to SSO Login: PC & Logged-in User” option, this will reconfigure both your computer and user account to the new SSO service.

If you are upgrading the device ready for a new user, whose account is being created as an SSO login account choose the “Migrate to SSO Login: PC Only (not user)”

Please note the migration process can take up to an hour to complete.

Once the migration has completed your device will have restarted and you are presented with the login screen use the following instructions to login.

Logging into SSO Device

  • Please ignore the username which may appear when you wake up your machine – choose “Other user” from the left-hand corner
  • Enter your SSO@ox.ac.uk
  • Enter your SSO password
  • You should then be presented with “Windows Hello” and you can configure your 6-dgit PIN plus Hello Camera / Fingerprint login – if your hardware supports it, (PIN available to all). You will be prompted to complete MFA, but this should be the last time on this device.
  • Once the desktop is shown – PLEASE REBOOT. This just makes sure all the policies load in correctly.
  • Log in again – this time you will use Hello and the login should be significantly faster.

Once you login you can configure your email and check all restored settings.

If you use generic or delegated mailboxes that are not setup to auto-map, these will need to be re-added in Outlook. You will require the name of the mailbox to which you have access or the email address of this account.
