Troubleshooting steps

Remote Desktop can't connect to the remote computer

This error is usually caused by having an incompatible authenticator set in Microsoft MySignins

  1. Go https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info and
  2. Make sure you have the Microsoft Authenticator setup. If you need assistance with setting this up see this help page https://help.it.ox.ac.uk/how-to-use-mfa#collapse3738196
  3. Once you have Microsoft Authenticator setup, make sure it is default authenticator.
  4. You can do this by clicking the word change in the “You’re using the most advisable sign-in method where it applies” section
  5. This will bring up a window with a drop-down box. Make sure you select App based authentication – notification and press confirm.

After making this change you should be able to launch Remote Desktop or your Remote Application
