Record a Meeting in Teams

Teams can be used to capture audio, video, and screen sharing activity for the purpose of delivering teaching and learning inclusive of training courses.The recording happens in the cloud, and is saved to the Microsoft Stream service.

Before you can record meetings you must complete the Recording in Teams request form. This will be actioned at 5pm each day (including weekends) and, once done, it may take up to 24 hours for the change to take effect.

Record a meeting

  1. Open your Teams application and start or join the meeting
  2. Go to the Chat Menu and click on the three ellipses icon

  3. From the menu that appears select 'Start Recording'
  4. Everyone in the meeting is now informed that recording has started

  5. The notification is also added to the Chat board
  6. To stop recording, click on the three ellipses icon and select 'Stop Recording' from the menu

  7. Confirm you wish to stop recording by selecting Stop recording in the popup box

  8. Once stopped the recording is processed and sent to Microsoft Streams service.
  9. You will receive an email from Streams telling you the recording is now ready for viewing and sharing.

Accessing your recordings

  1. In order to view,share, download or delete your recordings visit
  2. Click on My Content in the top menu to open menu options and select meetings

  3. The Meetings listing will open and your new recording shown

  4. You can now add to channels, watch list, update video details, share with others, download or delete the recording.

Recording Permissions 

The default permissions for the recording are set with the person who made the recording as the owner of the video and the Nexus 365 users who were on the meeting invite are set as viewers. External or guest meeting participants will not have access to the recording.  

Please note that video owners have the ability to open their video up to all Nexus365 users. In the video permissions section, the owner can allow every Nexus365 user the permission to view their video.

Only select this setting if you are sure you want to allow every Nexus365 user access to view your video.

The Microsoft guidance on permissions and privacy provides more information on how to mange video permissions.

Note recording is restricted to staff members who have submitted a request to have recording enabled.

  • Recording continues even if the person who started the recording has left the meeting.
  • The recording stops automatically once everyone leaves the meeting.
  • If someone forgets to leave the meeting, the recording automatically ends after four hours.
